SOL

World Map

SOL is a world that, unlike Earth, is the center of its star system. It has two suns that, despite all logic and laws of gravity, revolve around it, creating endless daytime. Once, SOL was much more like Earth, it had just one sun that it revovled around and it even had a moon. But, due to the meddling of the Light Barrier, its moon disappeared and another sun took its place, completely altering the layout of its star system.

SOL, to the gods, has always been a bit of an enigma. The smarter of them avoid it and its inhabitants, but the Light Barrier saw it as free real estate to make into his own realm. Unfortunatley for everyone involved, the Light Barrier is easily bored and tends to abandon projects reguardless of who and what could be hurt by it. As a result, SOL is even stranger than it was before. The gods try their best to keep it separate from the rest of the universe, but sometimes things slip through.

Design notes: The overall look of the continent is HEAVILY based on Pangea, what Earth looked like before the continents drifted apart.

Magic

Magic on SOL operates under one rule: everything can be reasoned with. With the right amount of time and effort, virtually anyone can become a magic user, whether it be of something tangible like fire or earth or an intangible concept like thought or luck. Mages can communicate with their Element and persuade it to do certain things, but just like people an Element can refuse if the mage is not trusted or was not persuasive enough. Particularly powerful mages have been known to get too pushy with their Element, in turn being consumed by it.

Elementals

Elementals are creatures born to normal animals that have a natural power over a single Element. Elementals can be identified early in life by having control over an Element at a very young age, as normal mages take many years to gain the trust of their Element. Elementals are traditionally named for their Element after it is discovered and there is only ever one Elemental for their respective Element at a time. Elementals are not considered mages because they do not need to reason with their Element, instead they are a piece of their Element given physical form, and so controlling their Element is more like flexing a limb. How and why Elementals form is unknown.

Thornwood

Government

Thornwood, while considered a part of the Great Four Kingdoms, is actually made up of seven wolf packs all working independently in their own territories. These seven packs all have their own ways of electing leaders and these leaders make up a council for the entire country. The Shimmer and Stone packs have leaders picked by their predecessors, with Leaders Abalone and Sed respectively. The Oak and Daisy packs are direct democracies where the candidates volunteer with Leaders Birch and Duke, while the Fern pack is also a direct democracy were all adults are considered canidates whether they like it or not and is ruled by Leader Lotus. The oldest member of the Rose Pack is the leader by default, with their Leader Prim and the Crown Pack's leadership is passed down from parent to child, with their leader Mortar.

History

Near the end of the Clouded Age calamaty hit the Thornwood royal family and King Pragafrea and his siblings, Prince Druhfrea and Princess Blostcwen, were all murdered. Prince Druhfrea's son, Prince Stanfrea was raised isolated in the castle and later became king. King Pragafrea's son Prince Velgar, who was thought to have died along with his mother and her family, reappeared and challenged King Stanfrea's right to the throne. When Stanfrea refused Velgar the throne Velgar attacked him and was killed along with his maternal uncle Ismorth who supported him in the fight. A month later Velgar returned, undead and leading an army of other undead woodland animals, attacked the castle again, this time doing more damage and managing to kill King Stanfrea. But for unknown reasons Velgar and his army fled, leaving Thornwood's government in shambles. The wolves outside the Crown Pack decided these fights for the throne did more harm that good for the rest of Thornwood and it was collectively decided to dismantle the monarchy and build a new government where physical fights were less likely to come about.

There are no ghosts here. But the dead still walk between these trees.

Glenlocke

Glenlocke is the youngest of the Great Four Kingdoms, ruled by foxes that pride themselves on being distantly related to wolves from the Green. It is currently ruled by Queen Lurid.

Before Glenlocke's formation, it was considered Thornwood territory, but was not formally claimed by any particular pack. It was mostly populated by solitary foxes. It was eventually united and founded under Queen Allium, which the current royal family are still decended from.

Glenlocke is heavily wooded, just like Thornwood. The capital, Astral, is named for one of Queen Allium's ansestors.

They once worshipped the Pit.

Their old religion has been revived in recent times. Queen Lurid is a fool who thinks she can tame something beyond Gods.

Astral hates what her family has become.

But the wolves of the Green remember. They know where it came from. They know the Morning's sins.

Atlas

Government

Atlas is the oldest of the four kingdoms, populated by dragons long before the Old Civilizations died out, it remains one of the strongest of the four kingdoms. It has a monarchy and has been ruled by Queen Byssarreth since the latter half of the Clouded Age. Because of the dragons' long lifespans, they have very few monarchs in their history. Queen Byssarreth has no heir.

History

Atlas, being the only kingdom to exist at the same time as the Old Civilizations, is said to have had an antagonistic relationship with the Old Ones.

The Shay Dam was initially built to keep the wolves of Thornwood out of their territory, but after negotiations with the Shimmer pack the river was declared a trade route and the two kingdoms became allies.

Culture

During the Dark Age, the Atlas dragons were said to have primarily worshipped two gods: A bright one that withered and died and came back to life every month and a dark one that caused the repeated death of the other (but, strangely, is also said to have been the light god's lover). There were several other small gods that were the dark and light gods' children, but most information on them is either extremely well hidden by the dragons of Atlas or lost to time.

Dragons instinctually feel the need to collect certain things and the royal family has been known to be interested in valubles in the form of jewelry and shiny ores. Because of this and the mountainous environment, Atlas used to have a very plentiful mining economy, but since that time most of the mines have dried up.

Geography

Due to its mountainous geography, Atlas is not made for small or flightless creatures. Its capital, New Ore rests at the top of the greatest mountain, only reachable by creatures with wings.

Brightscale lake is a popular tourist spot due to its beautiful and clear waters and it residing on flat ground rather than in the mountains like the rest of Atlas' landmarks.

Crystal

The Crystal kingdom is considered the most prosperous of the four; it is known for its massive markets where merchants and buyers from all over the world, even outside the kingdoms, gather. It is ruled by Queen Zenit and King Junior. Crystal, being the four kingdoms' only connection to the Green, is a bit of a gateway from the outside world.

Its capital Clearstone is situated in an oasis but most of its landscape is much less green.

The cliffs over the Gulf of Gore are heavily guarded because of pirate attacks and the general eariness of an ocean of blood.

Glaces

Glaces is a frozen island populated by creatures that went exinct on Earth a long time ago. There are no kingdoms here; instead city-states dot the map, with three major ones and several much smaller ones.

Sewalts, the most prosperous of the city-states, is governed by a saber-toothed cat named Frigg. Sewalts is known for aiding smaller city-states.

Sistans is the biggest of the city-states. They are known for their closed borders and only letting outsiders in for trade purposes. Sistans is ruled by a dire wolf named Pendook.

Whaltic is far removed from the other city-states and rarely communicates with them. It is governed by a giant ground sloth named Sorress.

Lyre Island
